Chompin' Chocolate and the Human Digestive System

Visited the Confectionary Warehouse yesterday.

Normally you pay like $5 for 250 grams of peanut m&m's, I got a kilo for $9.95.

Let's not talk about how much I spent.

Let's instead focus on the confectionary. Think of all the good I could do with it - spreading joy to the peoples of the world, happiness to those who have none.

Now lets watch me eat it, keeping the enjoyment all to myself and my arteries.

He he.

Formulas

For those who love just taking things as they come to them, and not thinking about things too much, here's a glimpse into my world for them.

I noticed today just how many people fall into the trap of formulising things. Take reviews for instance.Link

It all looks remarkably similar to the 'template' we follow for our short story critiques... Give our overall feeling of the piece, give a short synopsis with any background information, tell what was bad about the piece and suggestions of how to improve it, and then tell what was good about it. At the end, give an overall view on it.

Hmm...

Of course we can't go past the archetypical formula of the essay - outline your points, elaborate your points, sum up your points. This carries onto the spoken sermon/speech/oral presentation. It's amazing just how many important issues can be summed up in three main points... and often they'll amazingly all start with either the same letter, or their initials will spell a word. :-P

Lastly I'm left with the wonderful pop song. Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus, Chorus/Verse. It's great for me as a drummer, cos I don't need to have heard a song to play along with it.

I guess in such a criteria-based world, there's comfort in a formula, within which we can't really stuff up too badly.

Anyway that's my little viewpoint for today. Farewell, hope you have fun.

Vocabulary Lesson 1

Hello hello boys & girls, it's time for your english lesson!

Lets start with a few very interesting words/terms which have some interesting backgrounds:

Transcendentalist
The Beat Generation
Hubris

And here's something that my Export Management Lecturer spent two hours talking about rather than actually giving a lecture last semester:

Almost Too Interesting

Since blogs are a place, traditionally, to post interesting things, I thought I'd introduce my readers to something I've only recently found, but already I think it's absolutely fascinating.

It's called postsecret - people from all over the world post in a secret of theirs, artfully written on one side of a postcard sized card.

*WARNING* this site does contain some coarse language and adult themes.

Well, Stuffed, Actually.

Synopsis: Boring entry actually talking about my life, with poorly constructed sentences :)

A rather large weekend. Satdy night was the guy's retreat. We had a bit of rock climbing, where I once again learnt how weak I really am :). Then we went back to John Kilchester's place, played way too much Xbox, watched a bit of a movie, and ate junk food. ALL NIGHT. We were still playing Halo2 as the sun came up. It was fun, don't get me wrong, but my body's had a couple of weeks of staying up late, eating junk food and watching videos. I'm over it all. I need the vegetables, strict sleep & exercise routine and some serious fibre in my food.

But then, after a good start to this routine (I had veges for dinner on sunday) my housemate and I went over to a friend's place, and we were up until maybe 1:30am again.

Man. Lucky we've got this week off :)
