Singin' in the Rain
Well, friends are back from AGMF, Jess's family's back from camping, everyone's back in Brisbane but me & Jess, we're up in Cairns, with rain coming down all around us.
Heheh, by the way, if you want to tease her about something, tease her about the fact that she's now playing mario party at any chance she gets - she has crossed over to the dark side and become a geek/nerd/thing. Anyway, I should probably get onto posting about other stuff.
Cairns is going well in lieu of the cyclone, apparently there was only one day or so that people were inconvenienced by the wind and stuff. Innisfail was really badly hit, so the hype that was given to how bad things are there is totally warranted - if you get a chance to give some money, please do, the people there really need it.
It's been great seeing old friends and everything, I really do appreciate being able to come up here to Cairns every now and again and touch base with people who consider me part of their family - my church, my friends and their families. The only thing that's been hampering things to do in Cairns (but I love it) is that it's been raining almost non-stop since we got here. The only time it didn't rain was Sunday morning, when we got up at 5:30 to get ready for the Easter Sunrise Celebration service on the esplanade, which was really cool.
Apparently all of this rain we're getting is due to the second cyclone which was following Larry - it's north of Cooktown, just creating a giant low all around these parts. Today's a real 'stay-indoors' day, with buckets just being thrown down from the heavens, and trust me, when the heavens throw buckets, they're gold buckets with silver handles, capable of holding several hundred litres. So later on we're gonna go rent some movies and then sit around watching them with some friends... It seems me and jess have come to cairns just to end up doing what we do down in brissie :P

Ah well..can't have it all eh? You've still got a week up there though to take in some non rain affected activities:P Anyways, AGMF was great, albeit rather tiring. Newsboys (yes thats right, i've crossed over to the dark side), Pillar, Sons of Korah, Chris Poulsen Trio and Scat were most awesome indeed. Though it does lack some of the vibe that sonfest had in years gone past, its still cool in its own way:)
hey Aaron,
Newsboys were good - welcome to the dark side. :-)
Newsboys have always been excellent, I've told you so for years, and now I imagine they are even more so, having Paul Colman join the ranks. Good to see the scales have fallen from your eyes Aaron :D
Hahahahahahahahaha aaron likes newsboys. I like them too, but Aaron's always been the one to bag them out. Hahahaha...
It's not really raining here, I've just been following Luke & Jess around with a sprinkler.
Drat! I knew something fishy was going on. But hang on a sec... how big was your sprinkler? It made the clouds all big and grey and stuff.
But that does explain why on Sunday morning it didn't rain... you weren't sprinkling...
Next time look more closely at that cloud... what do you really see?
6:30am on Sunday was far too early for such efforts :-)
Hmm..not sure how i feel about the Paul Colman joining. Honestly I think its rather silly, because it will no doubt reduce his own songwriting output, yes he's a good guitarist, but I don't think its anything that a thousand other guys couldn't have done. Unless he's going to actively contribute to the writing of new newsboys material (which at the moment, is almost exclusively done by Pete Furler) then him being there, to me is almost a waste...stage presence and name value aside.
The same stuff could be said for Phil Joel, and yet he's as much a part of the newsboys as captain crunch is a part of the Breakfast song.
Aaron, when you have become one of those thousand other guys that could do that, ie. you are a world famous songwriter/guitarist, and sold millions of CDs, and then been invited to join a band that can be found in the music hall of fame...THEN you can make such comments about Paul Colmans guitar skills.
Peter Furler commented when Paul Colman first joined that one of the reasons they asked him was because they had great respect for his songwriting abilities.
I'd be surprised if he didn't contribute either songs or co-writing skills to the Newsboys.
Owch..I thought I'd been complimentary about PC's guitar skills. Anyway, I don't think the same could be said for Phil Joel, he was fairly unknown upon joining the band (and in fact, didn't even play bass guitar at the time) and didn't release any of his own material until about 7 years after he joined. And..after some research, he's contributed very little to the writing of most of the material made by the band since his joining in 1995. In any case, I didn't mean to imply that it would definetely be a bad thing, bands just tend to only have one, sometimes two primary songwriters, my CONCERN not criticism, was that Colman might be somewhat wasted if his role is only that of a guitarist, which isn't exactly a huge role given the sort of music that the newsboys produce, ie one that is more reliant on lyricism than guitar riffs. And since when have the newsboys been in the music hall of fame? In any case...bring back PC3 I say!
newsboys are there -check out their dvd. And yes, we were all heartbroken when PC3 broke up. It's just something we'll have to learn to live with, endure through the pain
Which hall of fame? The rock'n'roll half of fame? The gospel hall of fame? The Australian hall of fame? Sorry I'm just rather perturbed by this..there's no way they would be in the rock'n'roll half of fame as they wouldn't be eligible. This is what you get for curiosity eh:P

Ok, so they might not be IN it, I could be wrong on that, but they've played there.
Ahh...thats alright:) I just thought it would've been strange that they were in it, thats all:P Still, playing at it is nothing to be shirked at I'm sure..
