Back inda hood

Now that I'm back in Brisbane, I've taken my study back up - that is, the study of film :) Last week I sat down to Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Fantasia 2000 and Fantasia. I just wanted to see what had happened to the old favourite. I'm not sure which one I prefer. The newer one is quite cool though. Indiana Jones is still as good as the day it was made. That trilogy is timeless.

On saturday night I watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp (Did I just hear a collective female sigh...?) and I was suitably impressed. Originally I thought it was a satirical jab at Michael Jackson, but it's turned into a great movie on its own right, and it promotes family to boot. The new oompa loompa songs were rather bland, but I guess nothing can compare to the LCD trip of little orange men dancing around while words bubble into existance onscreen. By the way, everyone is right -the new oompa loompa is creepy.

Last night I remembered one of the films I've always wanted to see but never got to - The Graduate. Now I can see why this film was so universally lauded. It's a biting satire - it explores the concept that was just coming onto the social scene at the time - that is, life's meaning falls in getting everything I want. I think the film painted a great picture of showing that this concept, taken to its full end, means that we not only take things from other people, but we can start taking other people - and we can take these people away from our friends and even our children. I'd recommend this film for anyone, because apart from an extremely brief scene with flashes of female toplessness, it doesn't have any foul language that I can remember, and it really is one of the best films ever made. Biting satire, great soundtrack and memorable characters.

Hmm... I think i've spoken enough. Go & have some anzac bikkies or something ... oh wait, you must perform a risk assessment first. :)
