The orgin of -fin-

A few people have wondered why I sign my posts with -Fin-. Questions include, "Why do you call yourself Fin?" and "Are you swedish?".

Here is the explanation.

In the beginning of cinema, there was no sound. Only live music played along with the films. Thus, dialogue was conveyed with cards with words on it. These cards were interspersed throughout the film to propel the narrative. They were called intertitles.

Anyway, at the end of the film there would appear an intertitle with the word -Fin- on it. The interesting thing was that intertitles with dialogue in it would be changed for different country's languages. All of the intertitles would be changed except for the last one. Thus -Fin- was the global intertitle for the end of a film.

That's about all the patronising lecturing about film I'll give today :-)

Oh by the way:

LISA MADE ME PUT THIS POST UP. SHE LIKES DUCKS.
